A 15 lap race at Sonoma Raceway (Short) in the MkI Ford Escort RS1600.<br /><br />Having qualified fifth I got a reasonable start and managed to open up a reasonable gap on the 2nd and 3rd placed drivers during the first third of the race.<br /><br />Then, on lap 6, a minor mistake at the hairpin saw my lead cut to one second and in my eagerness to increase the gap I asked too much of the tyres resulting in a spin and the loss of two places - what should have been win was now looking like a safe third as I couldn't seem to get back up to the two leaders who were staying 7 or 8 seconds ahead.<br /><br />However another unforced error saw me lose three more places and the remainder of the race was spent fighting with three other drivers for 4th, 5th and 6th place honours.
